Barcelona are preparing to split ways with Ousmane Dembele this summer unless he agrees to a contract extension, Sport reports.
The 24-year-old has spent the last four seasons with the Blaugrana but has only made 118 appearances due to recurring injuries.
His present contract ends in less than 13 months, and the Frenchman has yet to shown any interest in extending his tenure.
The Spanish giants are unlikely to be patient for long and may sell him for €50-60 million if discussions fail to proceed.
Dembele had a productive season with the Blaugrana in 2020/21, scoring 11 goals and providing five assists in 44 games across all competitions.
His fitness level was one of the major pluses. The Frenchman missed only six matches due to injury worries during the year.
Despite this, he does not look persuaded by the club’s sports ambitions and might be on his way out this summer.
Memphis Depay is in advanced discussion with the Catalan giants, and his arrival might open the door for Dembele’s departure.
Dembele played on both flanks and as a centre-forward last season, although he made only 19 La Liga starts.
Sergio Aguero’s arrival and Depay’s impending arrival might push Dembele lower down the pecking order next season.
In an ideal world, the attacker would seek guarantee of a starting job, and he would be better off seeking a new challenge elsewhere.
The Blaugrana may be able to negotiate a reasonable price for Dembele’s transfer, given his considerable improvement in fitness last season.
United have long admired the Frenchman and came close to signing him last summer on a season-long loan deal.
Earlier in April, it was reported that the Red Devils had been urged to pursue a new approach after his season-long development.
They are currently prioritizing a move for Jadon Sancho of Borussia Dortmund. It remains to be seen if they will be considered for Dembele’s signature.
