Luciano Spalletti, the head coach of Napoli, has praised the talents of striker Victor Osimhen, comparing him to Dries Mertens and Andrea Petagna.
The strategist thinks the West African has great skills and is certain his squad will do well in the upcoming season.
“I don’t see why we shouldn’t do well with the current squad; Osimhen falls into this discourse,” Spalletti told Soccernet.
“He goes for the deep; he has exceptional skills in the gaps. He understands how to score, assists the squad, and covers the open areas rather than leaving them to others. He is a powerful individual, comparable to Mertens and Petagna.”
The 22-year-old joined the Serie A club charges last season and scored 11 goals to help his side finish fifth.
Prior to joining Napoli, the Nigeria international spent one season with Lille in League 1, where he scored 13 goals in 27 appearances. He previously played for Sporting Charleroi in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League before to Lille.
The West African appeared in 25 appearances for them, scoring 12 goals.
The Super Eagle also played for Wolfsburg in Germany, making 14 games but failing to score.
He has represented Nigeria U17, scoring ten goals in seven matches, and has appeared four times for the U20 team. He has appeared in 12 games and scored six goals in the senior division.
However, the Super Eagles striker failed to justify his high-profile transfer, with some supporters questioning the hefty price paid to Lille. Due to injuries and coronavirus complications, the attacker was restricted to 30 games across all competitions.
