Alvaro Odriozola has tested positive for coronavirus, becoming the latest Real Madrid player to do so.

The 25-year-old is Madrid’s third player to catch the ailment in the last eight days, after Karim Benzema and new acquisition David Alaba.

Odriozola played the entire 90 minutes in Los Blancos’ 2-1 friendly loss to Rangers in Glasgow last week but will now withdraw from the squad.

On Saturday, Madrid confirmed the news in a brief statement on their official website, but they did not specify if the four-cap Spain international was asymptomatic.

Odriozola, a product of Real Sociedad’s academy, appeared 16 times for Madrid in all competitions this season, including nine starts in LaLiga.

With Dani Carvajal still recovering from a hamstring injury, Odriozola was in contention to start at right-back for Real Madrid this season.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side have one more pre-season friendly remaining — against Milan in Austria on August 8 – before facing Alaves in LaLiga the following week.
