AC Milan are confident of signing LOSC Lille pair Sven Botman and Renato Sanches and are keen to finalise deals before the summer, 90min understands.

I Rossoneri have been in talks regarding both players since January, with the duo set to cost the club £40m combined – we understand Sanches will roughly cost £15m and Botman will cost £25m.

Botman was heavily linked with a move to Newcastle at the start of the January transfer window, and the Magpies did believe the defender was genuinely interested in a move to St. James’ Park.

However, Lille president Olivier Letang dispelled hope that Botman would make a winter move to the Premier League in mid-January stating: “We had enquiries last summer for Sven but we were clear in saying that we needed Sven this season.

“We had a run in the Champions League and we managed to finish first in our group. We have big objectives for the end of the season so Sven will stay with us until the end of the season to help us achieve these objectives.”

Since then Newcastle have signed Dan Burn at centre-back and Milan have jumped ahead in the race to sign Dutch Under-21 international Botman.

90min has been told that Paolo Maldini, Milan’s technical directer and probably the greatest defender of all time, has played a huge part in convincing Botman to choose a move to San Siro.

The club itself see the 22-year-old as an ideal long-term replacement for Simon Kjaer, and a perfect long-term partner for Fikayo Tomori.

Sanches has also attracted plenty of interest from Premier League clubs, particularly since his impressive showings at Euro 2020 – most notably from Arsenal and Liverpool – but 90min has learned that he favours a move to Serie A due to his previous experiences at Swansea.

The midfielder endured an ill-fated loan move with Swansea during the 2017/18 season, and it’s a spell which has understandably deterred him from a move back to England’s top flight.

The midfielder would likely be a replacement for Franck Kessie, who looks all set to leave San Siro as a free agent when he contract expires in June.

90min recently reported that Barcelona are leading Juventus in the race to Kessie this summer and that talks between the Blaugrana and the player’s representatives are progressing well.
