Arsenal have reportedly taken ‘concrete steps’ towards signing Palmeiras midfielder Danilo.

The 20-year-old has made 93 appearances in all competitions for the Brazilian side, including in the FIFA Club World Cup final last month, in which he impressed despite defeat to Chelsea.

According to Calciomercato (via Sport Witness), Juventus and AC Milan have been monitoring Danilo since last year, before he signed a new long-term deal with Palmeiras, which expires in 2026.

But the report claims Palmeiras are willing to listen to offers should suitors meet the asking price of €15m, which ‘doesn’t frighten’ Arsenal.

While there are not indications of serious interest from the Serie A sides, ‘there are concrete steps to be taken’ from England and Portugal, with Arsenal and Benfica ‘vigilant’ of his situation.

Meanwhile, Arsenal continued their excellent run of form with a comfortable win over Leicester on Sunday.

Speaking post-match, Arteta said that it was a “big win” for his team.

“Without putting in a performance we don’t beat Leicester. They are a good side and made it tough for us. It was a big win for us,” Arteta acknowledged (via BBC Sport).

“I was pleased with the understanding of what we had to do. When they started to overload in certain areas, we understood how we had to resolve that. Also pleased with the movement and link-up between the players was terrific.”

On playing Champions League football: “The reality in football is when you start to predict what can happen no-one would get it right – the only thing we can control is our performance.

“We are in a good position but there is still a lot to fight for. Next up is Liverpool – we know how tough it will be but we will try to win it.

“You can sense and feel the [young players] are having a good time together and that translates on the pitch.”

On Lacazette: “We appreciate and understand the work he does for us in certain areas and today we are happy he has been able to score.”
