Aston Villa skipper, John McGinn, expressed his disappointment following their exit from the Europa Conference League on Thursday night. The Premier League outfit was knocked out by Olympiacos in the semi-finals.
After losing 4-2 in the first leg at home, Villa suffered a 2-0 defeat in Greece, resulting in a 6-2 aggregate loss. Reflecting on the game, McGinn said, “It’s a bitter pill to swallow. We were all hoping to make it to the final.”
He acknowledged Olympiacos’ outstanding performance in both legs and admitted that they were the superior team. McGinn added, “While we will analyze our mistakes, we can still be proud of our journey this season.”
The captain also apologized to the loyal supporters who had traveled to Greece, stating, “We wanted to bring home a trophy for them. As players, we are all deeply disappointed. However, we need to focus on our last two matches and strive for a Champions League spot, which would be an incredible achievement.”
Despite acknowledging Olympiacos’ success, McGinn couldn’t hide his disappointment and frustration at the missed opportunity. He concluded by congratulating the Greek side and wishing them luck in the final.
