Tottenham boss Postecoglou: Bragging rights ≠ success

Tottenham Hotspur manager, Ange Postecoglou, had some strong words for a section of the club’s supporters ahead of their clash with Manchester City this week. With Spurs fighting for a top-four finish in the Premier League, Postecoglou acknowledged that there may be fans who would prefer to see their team lose to City in order to prevent rivals Arsenal from winning the league.

Speaking to reporters, the Australian boss said, “If you’re going by social media, then 99% of them will [want Spurs to lose], but please don’t tell me that’s your world. If it is, you need counseling. I understand rivalry, but I’ll never understand anyone wanting their own team to lose.”

Postecoglou emphasized his belief in the importance of hard work, perseverance, and quality in achieving success for the club. He dismissed the notion of seeking a quick fix or settling for bragging rights, stating, “It’s important for this club to get to where we want to be, not look for a silver bullet. We know what real success looks like.”

The Tottenham manager expressed confidence in the majority of the fans’ desire for victory, saying, “You think the majority of our fans don’t want us to win? I don’t see it that way. I think the fans inside the stadium will create the same atmosphere they always do.”

With a crucial game against Manchester City on the horizon, Postecoglou’s focus remains on securing a positive result and continuing Tottenham’s pursuit of their goals.
