Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is confident that both Ederson and Stefan Ortega will be staying put at the club, despite rumors swirling about their futures. Ederson, who was previously linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, has committed to City until 2024-25 after discussions with Guardiola.
Last season, Ederson made 37 appearances and kept 12 clean sheets, with an impressive save percentage of 67.1%. On the other hand, Ortega only featured in 13 league games, managing three clean sheets and a save percentage of 64.7%. Both goalkeepers have just 12 months left on their current contracts.
Guardiola addressed the goalkeeping situation at City during a golf event in Catalonia, stating that both Ederson and Ortega will continue with the club. Despite this, City have been linked with potential new goalkeepers, including Espanyol’s Joan Garcia and Porto’s Diogo Costa.
Garcia, who led LaLiga in saves last season, has caught the attention of many clubs, including City. However, Guardiola played down the speculation surrounding Garcia, praising his abilities but emphasizing that City are linked with numerous players in every transfer window.
While Guardiola acknowledged Garcia’s talent, he made it clear that the focus is on the current goalkeepers at City. With both Ederson and Ortega expected to stay, Guardiola seems content with the options available to him in the goalkeeping department.
