Eustace: Derby should have finished off Sheffield Wednesday sooner in 3-0 victory

Derby County boss John Eustace was left feeling a mix of relief and frustration after his team’s 3-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday. The Rams had been on a three-match winless streak before this game, but managed to secure all three points in style.

Patrick Agyemang scored twice, with Liam Thompson adding another goal early in the second half as Derby climbed back into the top half of the table. The Rams were dominant throughout the match, taking 15 shots compared to Wednesday’s three and amassing an expected goals (xG) figure of 1.64 to the Owls’ 0.18.

Eustace believed his team should have been further ahead by half-time, with missed opportunities costing them a more commanding lead. Despite this, he was pleased with how his team controlled the game in the second half and converted their chances.

On the other hand, Sheffield Wednesday are still struggling to find their form, especially at home where they are yet to secure a win this season. With a total of 18 points deducted, they find themselves 29 points adrift of safety.

Owls boss Henrik Pedersen was disappointed with his team’s performance, noting that they failed to replicate the level of play they showed in their previous draw against Watford. He pointed out that a loss of possession leading to Derby’s first goal was a turning point in the match, and by the time they conceded the second goal, the game was already out of reach.

Overall, Derby’s victory was a much-needed boost for the team, while Sheffield Wednesday will need to regroup and improve if they are to climb out of their current predicament.
