Maresca concerned about Delap’s shoulder injury

Enzo Maresca has expressed concern over Liam Delap’s shoulder injury, describing it as “quite bad” and fearing that the striker could be facing another lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Delap was forced off the field in the 32nd minute of Chelsea’s recent 0-0 draw with Bournemouth, following an awkward landing on his shoulder after a challenge with Marco Senesi. He was seen leaving the pitch with his arm supported in a makeshift sling.

Having only recently returned from a two-month absence due to a hamstring injury, Delap has struggled with fitness issues since joining Chelsea in the summer, making just 17 appearances in all competitions, including the Club World Cup.

Maresca lamented the unfortunate setback, stating, “Unfortunately, he has already been out for two months, and he has to be out again. We don’t know for how long, but it looks quite bad, his shoulder. He has been unlucky. We are also a bit unlucky because we need that kind of a No.9.”

Despite his limited game time, Delap has managed to score two goals for Chelsea, with his first coming in the Club World Cup and the second in a 3-0 Champions League victory over Barcelona. However, he is yet to open his account in the Premier League, despite registering 12 shots in total.

The injury news comes as a blow to Chelsea, who will now have to cope without one of their attacking options as they continue their campaign in multiple competitions. Stay tuned for further updates on Delap’s recovery process.
