Politano shines as Napoli beats Lazio 2-0 in Serie A feud

Napoli closed in on Serie A leaders AC Milan with a 2-0 victory over nine-man Lazio on Sunday. Matteo Politano played a key role in both goals at Stadio Olimpico, where Lazio failed to even muster a shot on target.

The first goal came in the 13th minute when Politano set up Leonardo Spinazzola for a volleyed finish. Napoli doubled their lead in the 32nd minute as Politano’s free-kick was headed in by Amir Rrahmani.

Despite Eljif Elmas hitting the woodwork and missing a good chance, the game heated up in the final 15 minutes with three players receiving red cards. Tijjani Noslin was sent off for a second yellow card, while Adam Marusic and Pasquale Mazzocchi were also dismissed after an altercation.

Mateo Guendouzi hit the crossbar late on, but Napoli held on comfortably for the win. This victory marked their fourth consecutive clean sheet in all competitions, a feat they last achieved between April and May 2025.

Lazio’s unbeaten streak against Napoli came to an end, with Maurizio Sarri’s side failing to trouble the reigning champions. The hosts managed just 0.36 expected goals from five attempts, while Napoli had 14 shots with a total xG of 1.68.

Politano stood out with three chances created, two of which led to goals. It was a dominant display from Napoli as they continue their impressive run of form under Antonio Conte.
