Wrexham, led by Ryan Reynolds, to play friendlies in U.S. and Canada

Wrexham Football Club, owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, is set to embark on a tour of North America for a series of pre-season fixtures. The Welsh club will play two games in California and another in Vancouver, Canada, as part of their preparations for the upcoming season.

The announcement was made in an online video, with Reynolds and McElhenney encouraging fans to purchase tickets to witness the action. Wrexham has recently secured their place in League One, the third tier of the English Football League, after achieving back-to-back promotions under their ambitious owners.

Since being bought by the Hollywood actors in 2021, Wrexham has gained worldwide fame. With significant investments in transfers, the club has strengthened its squad and achieved a play-off victory last season. This year, they went even further by securing automatic promotion.

Thanks to the globally broadcast documentary ‘Welcome to Wrexham’, the team has gained a growing fanbase across the pond. This will be their second time playing on American soil after facing Chelsea and Manchester United in July last year.

During their tour, Wrexham will face Bournemouth in Santa Barbara on July 20, Chelsea again in Santa Clara on July 24, and Vancouver Whitecaps on July 27. Head coach Phil Parkinson sees this opportunity to play against Premier League opposition as a great chance for his players to grow and develop.

“It will be a great opportunity to meet new fans and, at the same time, prepare for the 2024-25 League One season,” Parkinson said.

In addition to the men’s team tour, Reynolds’ team also announced Ally Financial as the title sponsor of the Wrexham AFC Women’s summer tour. Details of the women’s tour will be released soon.

Overall, Wrexham’s tour of North America presents an exciting opportunity for the club to showcase their talent and expand their fanbase. With Reynolds and McElhenney at the helm, Wrexham continues to make waves both on and off the pitch.
