Grealish opens up about off-pitch struggles, praises Guardiola’s support.

Jack Grealish has opened up about his personal struggles this season, expressing gratitude towards Pep Guardiola for his support as Manchester City secured their fourth consecutive Premier League title. The team finished two points ahead of Arsenal, with Phil Foden’s brace in a 3-1 victory over West Ham sealing the championship.

Guardiola’s achievement of six English top-flight titles now places him alongside legendary managers Alex Ferguson, George Ramsay, and Bob Paisley. Grealish has been a part of City’s last three triumphs, although his performance in the 2023-24 season was not as impressive as the previous campaign. In the 2022-23 season, he scored five goals and provided seven assists in 28 league matches.

This season, Grealish only contributed to four Premier League goals (three goals, one assist) due to fitness issues and a dip in form, resulting in him making just 10 starts. Speaking to Sky Sports after receiving the trophy, Grealish praised Guardiola, saying, “He’s an incredible person. I’ve had my struggles off the pitch this season, and he has been there for me every step of the way. He’s not only a fantastic manager on the field but also behind closed doors and in his office, he has supported me.”

Grealish also expressed his pride and happiness for his teammates, particularly highlighting Mateo Kovacic’s attitude despite not playing in the final game. Reflecting on his own performances, Grealish admitted that he felt he did not meet his own standards this season. However, he acknowledged that he played well in certain moments and recognized the competition within the team, emphasizing the beauty of City’s rotation system.

As Manchester City becomes the first team in English football history to win four consecutive top-flight titles, the question arises: are they the Greatest Team Ever™️? Opta Analyst Ali Tweedale delves into the numbers to attempt an answer.
