Manchester United shot-stopper Andre Onana has opened up about his initial struggles when he joined the club. The goalkeeper, who arrived from Inter Milan for a hefty fee in the summer, admitted that it took him some time to settle in at Old Trafford. Despite having previously worked with manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax, Onana found it challenging to adapt to the Premier League.
“I arrived as the best goalkeeper in the world and ‘boom’ it went down. It was like ‘what happened?'” Onana told the BBC. “But that is how difficult football is sometimes. It depends if you want to stay down there or stand up and fight. I know what I did to arrive here. I know who I am. I decided to stand up and fight.”
Onana also defended his teammate Marcus Rashford, who has been facing difficulties on the pitch recently. “We are talking about the same player,” he said. “So now he’s a bad player? No. You can have a bad season or a bad start but the most important thing is how you end.”
According to Onana, Rashford is one of the best players in the world and will bounce back from his current struggles. “But he will come back. I know my killer will score some important goals for us. Hopefully against City he will score two and we win the FA Cup.”
It’s clear that Onana believes in his own abilities and those of his teammate, expressing confidence that both of them will overcome their challenges and contribute to the success of the club.
