Bayern Munich defeats Tottenham 2-1 with goals from Vidovic and Goretzka

Tottenham Hotspur’s unbeaten run in pre-season was brought to an end by Bayern Munich, who secured a 2-1 victory in Seoul. Gabriel Vidovic and Leon Goretzka were the goal scorers for Bayern, while Pedro Porro pulled one back for Spurs. Despite their efforts, Tottenham were unable to find a way past Vincent Kompany’s side.

Bayern wasted no time in opening the scoring, with Vidovic capitalizing on Guglielmo Vicario’s poor pass to Djed Spence and finishing from close range just four minutes into the game. The Bundesliga side dominated the first half, having 12 shots compared to Spurs’ two, but were unable to increase their advantage until after halftime.

In the second half, Mathys Tel found Goretzka inside the area, and although his initial effort was saved by Vicario, he followed up with the rebound to double Bayern’s lead. Tottenham showed improvement as the game progressed, with Porro’s strike from distance eluding Manuel Neuer in the 66th minute, giving hope of a comeback. However, Bayern controlled the latter stages of the match and secured the win, handing Spurs their first defeat of pre-season.

Spurs’ second-half performance was a positive takeaway for manager Ange Postecoglou, as they improved their expected goals (xG) total from 0.11 to 1.22. However, Bayern dominated the game overall, registering 22 shots, with 20 of them coming from inside the area and 11 on target. Tel was particularly impressive for Kompany’s side, making the most touches in the opposition box (nine) and equaling the most passes in the final third (13).

Overall, it was a disappointing result for Tottenham Hotspur, but there were some encouraging signs in their second-half performance. They will be looking to bounce back in their next pre-season fixture.
