Eli Manning joins Wrexham to challenge Birmingham before Monday’s game

Ahead of Wrexham’s upcoming League One clash against Birmingham City, co-owner Rob McElhenney decided to inject some playful banter into the pre-match build-up. McElhenney, known for his humorous antics, brought former NFL quarterback Eli Manning into the conversation, referencing Manning’s history with Birmingham co-owner Tom Brady.

In a lighthearted gesture, McElhenney posted a picture on social media platform X, showing Manning wearing a Wrexham shirt and proudly pointing to the club’s dragon crest. The post quickly gained traction among his 1.1 million followers, adding a touch of fun to the football rivalry between Wrexham and Birmingham.

“We are honored that Eli Manning has coincidentally (because Co-chairmen Rob McElhenney and Ryan begged him) joined the Wrexham fanbase, just in time for our match over at Tom Brady’s Birmingham on Monday night,” read the caption accompanying the photo.

When it comes to their head-to-head history, Birmingham City has had the upper hand, securing five wins out of their ten meetings since 1928. In contrast, Wrexham has only managed to claim victory twice, with their most notable triumph being a 3-1 FA Cup win in 1997.

“Now I can beat Tom Brady in football and futbol. Go Wrexham,” Manning playfully added.

The banter-filled exchange between McElhenney and Manning was well-received by fans, although Brady himself has yet to respond to the playful dig. This football rivalry bears similarities to the NFL, where Brady holds a slight edge over Manning in regular-season games. However, Manning famously defeated Brady in two high-stakes Super Bowl matchups in 2008 and 2012.

Manning’s success in those Super Bowls, particularly the one that shattered Brady’s hopes of a perfect season, has become legendary within the NFL community. Brady’s Patriots had dominated the regular season with impressive scoring performances, only to be unexpectedly shut down by Manning’s Giants in a tense 17-14 Super Bowl loss.

The playful banter between McElhenney, Manning, and Brady adds an extra layer of excitement to the upcoming clash between Wrexham and Birmingham. With the match on the horizon, fans eagerly await the outcome of this intriguing encounter.
