Ruben Amorim appointed as Manchester United head coach

In a surprising turn of events, Manchester United’s impressive 5-2 victory over Leicester has not swayed the club’s directors from their decision to appoint a new coach. Despite the speculation surrounding legendary striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy, it has been confirmed that Ruben Amorim will take over as the new Manchester United coach until 2027, with the option for an additional year. The Portuguese coach is set to earn around 7-8 million euros per season, pending work visa requirements.

Amorim’s appointment has caused quite a stir in England due to his lack of experience in a high-profile league like the Premier League. Additionally, his departure from Sporting CP has left the Portuguese club in a somewhat vulnerable position, despite their unbeaten run and impressive goal tally of 30 in nine games.

However, Amorim will not be joining Manchester United immediately. As part of the agreement with Sporting CP, he will remain in charge for their next three matches against Estrela Amadora, Manchester City in the Champions League, and Braga. He will officially join United on November 11.

This marks the beginning of Amorim’s journey as a coach who will continue the Portuguese connection with the Red Devils’ dressing room. Previous figures such as Carlos Queiroz and Jose Mourinho have also had successful stints at Manchester United, with Mourinho leading the team to victory in the Europa League during the 2016/17 season.

Amorim’s debut as Manchester United’s new manager is scheduled for November 24 against Ipswich Town, who are currently struggling in 18th place in the Premier League. This gives the Portuguese coach some time to familiarize himself with the Carrington facilities and work with the non-international players in the squad. He will have two weeks from November 10, when he faces his former team Braga with Sporting CP, to prepare for the daunting task of restoring Manchester United to their former glory.

Only time will tell if Amorim can succeed in revitalizing the English team and reclaiming their footballing authority.
