Paris Saint-Germain ended their Ligue 1 season on a high note with a thrilling 3-1 comeback victory over Auxerre at the Parc des Princes. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was the standout performer in the second half, boosting the champions’ confidence ahead of the Coupe de France and Champions League finals.
Despite PSG’s early dominance, Auxerre surprisingly took the lead in the 30th minute through Lassine Sinayoko, who calmly finished Gaetan Perrin’s well-placed pass. Nuno Mendes came close to equalizing with a superb free-kick that hit the post shortly after.
The hosts finally leveled the score in the 59th minute when Kvaratskhelia found the back of the net with a low shot that goalkeeper Donovan Leon could have done better to save. Marquinhos then put PSG ahead with a header from Mendes’ corner in the 67th minute.
Mendes won a penalty in the 77th minute after being fouled by Sinaly Diomande, but Goncalo Ramos failed to convert from the spot. Kvaratskhelia sealed the victory with a goal in the final minutes, rounding off a fantastic performance.
PSG bounced back from their recent home defeat to Nice and extended their unbeaten run against Auxerre to six matches. They also set a new points record in an 18-team season, surpassing St. Etienne’s previous record.
Ousmane Dembele finished as Ligue 1’s joint-top scorer with 21 goals, narrowly missing out on the Golden Boot. Despite his efforts, Mason Greenwood’s brace for Marseille meant he had to share the accolade.
