Florian Wirtz Signs with Liverpool for Record 137.5 Million Euros

Liverpool have secured a deal with Bayer Leverkusen for the transfer of Florian Wirtz for a whopping 137.5 million euros. The agreement includes an initial payment of €117.5 million (£100 million) and an additional €18.8 million (£16 million) in variables. Wirtz is set to sign with Anfield for the next five years, until 2030, according to reports from The Athletic.

This transfer fee sets a new record for both Liverpool and the Premier League, surpassing the previous highest transfer amount for Moises Caicedo to Chelsea at 133 million euros. Initially, Leverkusen demanded 150 million euros for Wirtz, but the final deal was settled for a slightly lower amount with performance-based variables.

Bayern Munich was also interested in Wirtz, but the high asking price from Leverkusen and Liverpool’s persistence ultimately led to the midfielder choosing Anfield over Bayern. Real Madrid was also reportedly monitoring Wirtz, but he ultimately decided to join Liverpool.

Wirtz had an impressive season with Leverkusen, scoring 16 goals and providing 15 assists in 45 games. He played a crucial role in helping Leverkusen finish second in the Bundesliga and reach the last 16 of the Champions League. In the previous campaign, Wirtz contributed to winning the Bundesliga title and reaching the Europa League final with 18 goals and 20 assists in 49 games.

The official announcement of Wirtz’s signing is expected in the coming hours, adding to what has already been an exciting summer transfer window.
