Real Oviedo fans have reason to celebrate as Santi Cazorla has signed a new one-year contract with the club. The 40-year-old’s deal was set to expire, but he has committed to staying on following their promotion from the Segunda Division.
Cazorla proved his worth in the play-off semi-finals, scoring a crucial free-kick against Almeria and converting a penalty in the final against Mirandes. These goals helped Oviedo secure their return to LaLiga after an eight-year absence.
With 54 goals and 58 assists in 323 LaLiga matches, Cazorla brings a wealth of experience to the team. The former Spain international last played in LaLiga in 2020 before spending three years in Qatar with Al Sadd. His return to Oviedo in 2023 has been a successful one.
Having previously played for top clubs like Arsenal, Malaga, and Villarreal, Cazorla’s presence on the field will be invaluable for Real Oviedo. With 81 caps for Spain and two European Championships under his belt, Cazorla’s leadership will be crucial as Oviedo prepares for their upcoming LaLiga campaign.
