“Son writes emotional farewell to Tottenham”

Son Heung-min has bid farewell to Tottenham Hotspur after sealing a move to Los Angeles FC, labeling it as the “hardest decision ever.” The South Korea international, who spent a decade with Spurs, made the switch to LAFC for a reported fee of £20m, setting a new MLS record for transfer spending.

The departure of Son was anticipated, as he had already confirmed before a pre-season friendly against Newcastle United that his time at Tottenham was coming to an end. The 33-year-old will now reunite with former teammate Hugo Lloris in Los Angeles, having led Spurs to Europa League glory last season.

In an emotional Instagram post, Son expressed his gratitude to Tottenham, describing it as his home for the past decade. He reminisced about arriving in London in 2015 as a boy from Korea with big dreams, and how the club welcomed him with open arms and supported him through thick and thin.

Son leaves behind a legacy at Tottenham, having scored 173 goals and provided 101 assists in all competitions, including 127 goals in 333 Premier League appearances. His final competitive game for Spurs was the Europa League final triumph over Manchester United in Bilbao last season.

The fee paid by LAFC for Son surpasses the previous MLS record set by Atlanta United for Emmanuel Latte Lath from Middlesbrough in February. Son’s departure marks the end of an era at Tottenham, with fans left to remember his contributions to the club forever.
