Odegaard Unfazed by Adams’ Arsenal Captaincy Comments

Arsenal midfielder Martin Odegaard has brushed off criticism from former Arsenal captain Tony Adams, who suggested that Declan Rice should be given the captaincy instead. Odegaard, who was named captain by Mikel Arteta for the 2022-23 season, has led the Gunners to three consecutive second-place finishes in the Premier League and helped them reach the Champions League semi-finals last season.

Arteta revealed that Odegaard won a captaincy vote within the club by a large margin, showing the team’s confidence in him. Despite Adams’ comments, Odegaard remained unfazed, stating, “I don’t care that much, to be honest. Everyone can have their opinion and say what they want, and I’m all right with that. I can’t let it affect me.”

The Norwegian midfielder has been a key player for Arsenal, scoring 34 goals and providing 32 assists in 155 Premier League matches. In a memorable performance against West Ham in the 2023-24 season, Odegaard set a record by completing over 100 passes, creating seven chances, and assisting two goals in a single match.

Odegaard’s focus remains on his performance on the pitch and leading Arsenal to success, regardless of any external criticism. His leadership qualities have been recognized by Arteta and his teammates, making him a valuable asset for the Gunners both on and off the field.
