Guardiola names Haaland as Messi and Ronaldo’s successor

Manchester City are on the hunt for Arsenal in the Premier League, led by Erling Haaland who is setting records left and right. The Norwegian striker netted two goals in a 3-1 victory over Bournemouth, bringing his total to 17 official goals in just 13 games this season. With this win, the Sky Blues now have 19 points in the standings and a chance to close the gap on Arteta’s squad, who drew against Sunderland.

In a post-match interview, Pep Guardiola couldn’t help but praise Haaland, likening him to football legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. “It’s like playing with Messi or Cristiano, his impact is massive. Have you seen his stats? The only difference is that Messi and Cristiano have been doing it for 15 years, and they’re still scoring goals in the United States and Saudi Arabia,” Guardiola remarked, highlighting Haaland’s immediate influence on the team.

Haaland, at just 24 years old, has already amassed an impressive record of 142 goals and 21 assists in 160 games for City, maintaining an average of 0.89 goals per 90 minutes. Guardiola acknowledged that the striker is one of the few players capable of filling the void left by modern football icons, emphasizing Haaland’s hunger for success.

Coming off a goal against his former club in the Champions League, Haaland now has his sights set on Liverpool in the Premier League. With Haaland leading the attack and a strengthened squad behind him, City aims to dominate both domestically and in Europe.

Haaland expressed his commitment to City’s project and his desire to continue growing under Guardiola’s guidance. With a contract in place until 2034, it seems like the Norwegian is destined to usher in a golden era at the Etihad Stadium.
