Erling Haaland is rewriting English football history once again. In Manchester City’s win over West Ham, the Norwegian striker scored two goals and provided an assist, surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo’s 103 Premier League goals in just 114 games. This is a huge difference compared to the 236 games Ronaldo needed at Manchester United to reach that milestone.
Haaland had already become the fastest player to reach 100 goals in the English league, and now he adds another impressive achievement to his collection.
The end of the year could bring more challenges for Cristiano Ronaldo as two of his iconic records are under threat by Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe. Haaland has already surpassed Ronaldo’s Premier League record, while Mbappe is close to breaking his Real Madrid record.
Mbappe has the chance to surpass Ronaldo’s 59 goals in a calendar year with Real Madrid in their upcoming match against Sevilla. He only needs one goal to equal the record and two goals to break it, with the Santiago Bernabeu eagerly awaiting the outcome.
Cristiano Ronaldo initially achieved many records as a winger before becoming a prolific goalscorer. However, Haaland and Mbappe’s numbers cannot be ignored, with Haaland leading the Golden Boot race with 19 goals in 17 Premier League games.
While Ronaldo remains a football reference, the new generation is surpassing his records. The question now is not if more CR7 records will fall, but when and who will be the next to achieve it.
