Manchester United is making moves towards a futuristic new stadium, dubbed the “Wembley of the North,” as they prepare to leave behind the iconic Old Trafford, last renovated in 2006.
The Daily Mail revealed details of the new stadium, set to be constructed on a site owned by Freightliner. Manchester United has tabled a bid exceeding 57.5 million euros, a far cry from the 460 million euros demanded by the current owners.
Despite the substantial gap in figures, negotiations between Manchester United and Freightliner are progressing positively.
The new stadium, set to open in 2030, will replace the historic Old Trafford, built in 1910. Manchester United is investing a staggering 2.4 billion euros into the project, aiming to create a state-of-the-art, roofed stadium with a capacity of 100,000 spectators.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe, co-owner of Manchester United and Britain’s wealthiest individual, has hailed the future stadium as “incredible and iconic.”
Back in 2014, the ‘Red Devils’ owner referred to the new stadium as the “Wembley of the North.” Designed by renowned architect Lord Norman Foster, who is married to Spanish psychologist and presenter Elena Ochoa, the stadium promises to be a marvel of modern architecture.
