The inaugural Messi Cup is set to take place in Miami in December 2025, with Argentine superstar Lionel Messi announcing the launch of this exciting international youth soccer tournament. The event will showcase some of the top U16 clubs from around the world.
Taking place from December 9 to 14, the Messi Cup will not only feature high-level competition but also various cultural and sports industry events. It aims to provide long-term value for young athletes in their career development.
Among the eight world-class clubs participating in the tournament are Inter Miami, Barcelona, Manchester City, River Plate, Inter Milan, Newell’s Old Boys, Atletico Madrid, and Chelsea. Matches will be played at iconic Miami venues like Inter Miami CF’s Chase Stadium.
In addition to the on-field action, the Faena Forum will host a soccer industry summit, bringing together key figures from sports, culture, and business. The Messi Cup Summit Party will take place at Pao by Paul Qui, further solidifying the event as a unique blend of soccer and cultural celebration.
The competition format will see the teams divided into two groups of four, competing in a round-robin phase over the first three days. This will be followed by playoffs to determine final positions, with the third-place match and grand final taking place at Inter Miami CF’s Chase Stadium.
“The Messi Cup is the meeting point between today’s football and the players of tomorrow,” said Tim Pastore, CEO of 525 Rosario, Messi’s production company. “It is an opportunity to celebrate talent, culture, and community, creating legacies and bonds that will endure beyond the field of play.”
