Manchester United fires Amorim as manager after 14 months

In a shocking turn of events, Ruben Amorim has been axed as the manager of Manchester United after just 14 months at the helm. Darren Fletcher, a former United player and U18 coach, will step in as interim manager for the time being.

Amorim’s tenure saw Manchester United reach the Europa League final, although they fell short against Tottenham. His last match in charge was a 1-1 draw with Leeds, where he made it clear that he saw himself as the manager, not just a coach.

Despite some disagreements among the club’s directors, the decision to sack Amorim was made with the team sitting in sixth place in the Premier League. The hope is that a change in leadership will give them a better shot at climbing up the table.

Currently, Manchester United are sixth in the Premier League standings with 31 points, trailing league leaders Arsenal by 17 points. The team will now look to Fletcher to guide them through this transitional period as they aim to improve their position in the league.
