Amorim blames team for Man Utd’s financial troubles

Ruben Amorim has placed the blame for Manchester United’s financial troubles squarely on the shoulders of the first team. The Red Devils have been enduring a dismal season, currently sitting in 15th place in the Premier League table. Their performance has been so lackluster that they are as close to the relegation zone as they are to the top seven, with a 13-point gap.

Since Amorim took charge in November, United have only managed to win four out of 15 league games, drawing three and losing eight. The team’s poor form has attracted criticism, especially after the announcement of a “transformation plan” by the Jim Ratcliffe regime, which includes further redundancies and job losses for up to 200 staff members.

United’s latest financial accounts revealed a net loss of £113 million, adding to the over £300 million lost in the past three years. These figures have sparked rumors that academy products Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho may be sold to avoid breaching the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules.

Amorim, speaking ahead of their upcoming game against Ipswich Town, emphasized that the first team, as the “engine of the club,” bears the primary responsibility for these financial issues. He stated, “We have to address all the problems in the club, but one important piece of this moment is to understand how we get to this situation. It has a lot to do with the lack of success of the football team because we are the engine of any football club.”

Amorim acknowledged that United’s cost-cutting measures will not alleviate the prevailing sense of gloom at Old Trafford. He recognized the difficulties faced by the club this year and the numerous changes implemented. However, he emphasized that if the team were performing well and winning games, it would be easier for fans and everyone involved to feel more positive. Despite the challenging period both on and off the pitch, Amorim stressed the need to fight against this feeling and do their best to help the team improve.
