Neymar, the Brazilian superstar, showcased his skills by scoring directly from a corner for Santos. The goal was a response to the jeers from the opposing fans, who were left in awe of his brilliance.
In the 27th minute of the match against Internacional de Limeira in the Paulista Championship, Neymar curled in a corner-kick from the left. The ball caught out goalkeeper Igo Gabriel before bouncing in off the far post, leaving everyone stunned. The home crowd couldn’t help but cheer for this fantastic strike.
But that wasn’t all. Neymar had already assisted Tiquinho Soares’ opening goal in the ninth minute, also from a corner. However, this had drawn boos from the stands. Determined to prove himself, Neymar took matters into his own hands.
After the game, Neymar revealed his motivation behind the goal. “I went to take the first corner, and they provoked me,” he said. “I asked them to sing louder, I struck the ball and got an assist. Then, when I went there for the second time, they did it again. So I thought to myself: ‘Now I’m the one who’s going to score the goal’.”
And score he did. Neymar hit a great shot that found the back of the net, marking his first “Olympic goal” (a goal direct from a corner). It was a moment of triumph for the talented player.
This impressive performance by Neymar didn’t go unnoticed. OptaJoao tweeted, “Neymar was directly involved in three goals against Inter de Limeira (one goal, two assists), a feat he had not reached in club matches in 763 days, since Paris Saint-Germain’s win against Pays de Cassel in the Coupe de France (one goal, two assists).” It was a resurgence for Neymar, proving his worth on the field.
Since rejoining his boyhood club on a six-month deal in January, Neymar has scored two goals in six appearances. This is a promising start for the 33-year-old, who had been limited to just seven appearances during his 18-month spell at Al-Hilal due to injury. He hasn’t played for the Brazil national team since sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in October 2023.
With the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina in early March, Neymar is hopeful of getting back into the Brazil squad. As the Selecao’s all-time leading goalscorer, representing his country has always been an honor for him. “I’m going game by game, getting ready and feeling better on the field,” Neymar said. “If I have the opportunity to return, I will be very happy.”
Neymar’s determination and skill continue to shine, and fans eagerly await his next remarkable performance on the soccer field.
