Borussia Dortmund humiliated in 4-0 loss to Thai team BG Pathum United

Borussia Dortmund suffered a humbling 4-0 defeat against Thai side BG Pathum United in their second friendly match with new head coach Nuri Sahin at the helm.

Sahin took charge following Edin Terzic’s resignation after BVB’s Champions League final loss to Real Madrid last month. In his first game, Dortmund drew 1-1 with third-tier German side Erzgebirge Aue before embarking on a pre-season tour of Asia.

Their latest match saw them face BG Pathum United, who finished fourth in the Thai League 1 last season, in Thanyaburi. Despite featuring players like Karim Adeyemi, Youssoufa Moukoko, Julian Brandt, and Niklas Sule, Dortmund were soundly beaten 4-0.

Speaking after the defeat, former midfielder Sahin admitted, “Of course, it’s a heavy defeat, but I understand the context. However, losing 4-0 is unacceptable. If you make defensive mistakes, even against a Thai team, this can happen. I know the players are tired, but fatigue can’t be an excuse at this level.”

Sahin expressed his disappointment with the team’s defensive performance, stating, “I didn’t like our defense at all today. We need to address this issue. The basics of defending have nothing to do with fatigue. The fundamentals must be solid.”

Despite the setback, Borussia Dortmund remains optimistic about their future. They tweeted, “Much to build upon,” along with a video highlighting their journey.

Overall, it was a disappointing result for Dortmund, but there is still time for improvement before the start of the new season. The team will need to address their defensive issues and work on their fitness levels to ensure they are ready for the challenges ahead.
