In a brief moment, it seemed like Manchester United was finally turning things around under manager Ruben Amorim. Three consecutive wins had the Red Devils back in the Top 4 discussion. However, a 2-2 draw against relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest brought back familiar feelings for United fans.
Not too long ago, United finished third in the Premier League. But after a disappointing 2023-24 season and a rough start to the 2024-25 campaign, Erik Ten Hag was sacked and Amorim was brought in with high hopes. Unfortunately, Amorim, a former Portugal teammate of Cristiano Ronaldo, couldn’t prevent the season from turning into a disaster. Things only worsened at the beginning of the 2025-26 season, with United being knocked out of the EFL Cup by a League Two side.
Despite not having much time to make changes, Amorim has been under pressure for a while now. This doesn’t sit well with Ronaldo, who believes the problems at his former club go beyond just the manager.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Piers Morgan, Ronaldo criticized Manchester United’s current state as “sad.” He expressed his disappointment in the lack of structure at the club and called for changes to be made. Ronaldo emphasized that it’s not just about the coach and players, but there are deeper issues that need to be addressed.
Ronaldo pointed out that there seems to be an identity crisis within the club and its players. Amorim may be trying his best, but he could be facing an uphill battle with a team that is struggling to find its way.
