Dyche: O’Brien signing unrelated to Branthwaite future

In the latest transfer news, Sean Dyche has responded to rumors suggesting that the signing of Jake O’Brien from Lyon is connected to Jarrad Branthwaite’s future at Everton. Manchester United had previously made two unsuccessful bids for Branthwaite, but they are expected to make another attempt to lure him away from Goodison Park.

On Tuesday, Everton officially announced the acquisition of O’Brien on a four-year contract. The defender had an impressive season in Ligue 1, leading the Lyon team in blocks (18) and clearances (96). Additionally, he ranked second in contested aerial duels, with 44, only behind Duje Caleta-Car who won 57.

O’Brien is Everton’s fifth signing this summer, and Dyche emphasized the importance of building for the future during this transfer window. When asked about the connection between O’Brien’s arrival and Branthwaite’s potential departure, Dyche jokingly dismissed any correlation.

He stated, “Putting two and two together at Everton football club. No way!” Dyche then went on to explain the club’s strategy of utilizing the available finances to bring in players who can contribute to the team’s depth and development.

“We’re currently stretched, but we aim to strengthen the club with a younger generation of players who can not only perform on the pitch but also secure the club’s financial stability in the long run,” Dyche added. He acknowledged that finding such players is a challenging task but expressed confidence in the current squad.

Dyche also made it clear that there was no ulterior motive behind O’Brien’s signing in relation to Branthwaite. However, he acknowledged that speculation arises when people try to connect the dots. In conclusion, Dyche emphasized that the club’s focus is on building a strong team for the future while managing the current situation.
