Kevin Campbell, a former forward who played for Arsenal and Everton, has tragically passed away at the age of 54. The news was announced by both clubs on Saturday, with Arsenal revealing that Campbell had died “after a short illness.”
In a statement posted on their website, Arsenal paid tribute to Campbell and reflected on his impressive career. “Everyone at Arsenal is devastated to hear of the death of our much-loved former player Kevin Campbell,” the statement began. “A boyhood Arsenal supporter, Kevin joined our youth setup in 1985 and quickly showcased his incredible eye for goal, becoming the most prolific young striker in the country.”
During his time at Arsenal, Campbell scored an impressive 59 goals in 228 appearances and played a crucial role in helping the team secure the league title in 1991. He also had success in other competitions, winning the FA Cup, League Cup, and European Cup Winner’s Cup with the London-based club before moving to Nottingham Forest in 1995.
After a brief stint in Turkish soccer, Campbell joined Everton in March 1999. The club expressed their deep sadness at the passing of one of their most beloved former strikers. “Not only was Kevin a true Goodison Park hero and a huge fans’ favorite, but he was also an incredible person,” Everton stated. “Anyone who had the pleasure of meeting him would know this.”
During his six-year spell at Everton, Campbell scored 51 goals in 164 matches. He later went on to play for West Bromwich Albion before ultimately ending his career at Cardiff.
“Kevin was always warmly welcomed when he returned to Merseyside – and rightly so,” Everton added. “He was a giant of a man, a fabulous footballer, and he will be greatly missed by everyone fortunate enough to have known him.”
The soccer world mourns the loss of Kevin Campbell, a talented striker whose impact on both Arsenal and Everton will never be forgotten.
