Hradecky: Leverkusen’s mature decisions secure win

Bayer Leverkusen skipper Lukas Hradecky has hailed his team’s “mature decisions” in their hard-fought 2-1 victory over Union Berlin on Saturday. The match saw Jeremie Frimpong open the scoring early on, only for Jeong Wooyeong to equalize in the 29th minute. However, in-form Patrik Schick came to the rescue with a late winner, marking his 48th goal in his 100th Bundesliga appearance for Leverkusen, matching Ulf Kirsten’s club record.

Holding onto their lead was crucial for Xabi Alonso’s side, who had previously let slip leads in their last two away matches. Hradecky commended his teammates’ resilience in the closing stages, stating, “We made a lot of mature decisions. It’s been an issue for us that we’ve dropped points in previous away games. We stayed solid defensively and can be proud of the performance.”

Leverkusen’s defensive solidity was evident as they limited Berlin to just two shots on target throughout the game, with Hradecky not being tested at all in the second half. The team’s impressive away form continues, as they remain unbeaten in their last 23 Bundesliga away games, winning 17 and drawing 6, a club record that shows no signs of stopping.

Alonso expressed his satisfaction with ending their run of draws away from home, stating, “It’s going well for us right now. It was important that we finally won away again – we’ve learned from the last few weeks.” The victory puts Leverkusen in a strong position as they continue their campaign in the German top-flight.
