Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has criticized Dan Ashworth and Manchester United director Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Ratcliffe’s attempt to hire a technical director has hit a roadblock due to compensation issues, resulting in Newcastle placing Ashworth on gardening leave.
“Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s mindset is that ‘We’re Manchester United and we should be able to do whatever we want, whenever we want, regardless of Dan Ashworth’s contract,'” Jordan expressed on talkSPORT. “In any industry, including Ratcliffe’s chemical background, if you have senior executives who can change the direction of your business when they join a competitor, you include a lockout clause. It’s standard procedure.”
“However, because it’s the fantasy world of football, Jim Ratcliffe is suggesting it should be different. Newcastle United did their part, and the foolish technical director signed a contract that he now regrets.”
“If Newcastle said, ‘Actually, we don’t feel like paying you this month,’ the response would be, ‘What do you mean you won’t pay me?’ ‘We just won’t.’ ‘But I have a contract, you have to pay me.'”
“Now, there’s a contract that works the other way around. There’s a notice period, you silly person. You have to abide by it or negotiate your way out. And the way to negotiate is not by sending emails to your current employers that undermine your position and frustrate them. It’s about behaving properly and then getting Manchester United to pay the money that you supposedly deserve.”
