Liverpool FC and Portuguese national team striker, Diogo Jota, tragically passed away in a road accident in Spain. The 28-year-old had recently married and was a father of three children. The accident also claimed the life of his brother, Andre Silva, who played for Penafiel in the Portuguese Second Division.
The Guardia Civil reported that the accident occurred on the A-52 motorway in Cernadilla, Sanabria. It is believed that a tire on Jota’s Lamborghini burst while he was overtaking another vehicle, causing him to lose control and crash, resulting in a fire that took both their lives.
Celebrities and sports figures, including NBA star LeBron James and Jota’s teammates, expressed their condolences on social media. Jota, who joined Liverpool in 2020, had a successful career with the club and the Portuguese national team, winning multiple titles.
The soccer world mourns the loss of a talented player and a beloved teammate.
