Openda seeks to emulate Juventus greats with inspiration from Zlatan

Lois Openda is taking inspiration from the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic as he embarks on his loan spell at Juventus.

The Belgian striker made the move to the Serie A champions from RB Leipzig just before the transfer window closed. He faced the media in Turin on Thursday after returning from international duty.

Openda didn’t have his best season last year, managing nine goals and seven assists in 33 Bundesliga games. However, in previous seasons with Leipzig and Lens, he was more prolific, contributing to 31 goals in 2023-24 and 25 goals in 2022-23.

Ibrahimovic, who spent two seasons at Juventus before moving to Inter in 2006, is a player Openda admires. The Swedish star scored 22 league goals in 64 appearances for the Bianconeri after arriving from Ajax.

Now, Openda is eager to follow in Ibrahimovic’s footsteps as he begins his Juventus journey. His first test will come in Saturday’s derby d’Italia against Inter Milan.

“It was an easy decision to join Juventus,” Openda said confidently.

With a strong desire to make an impact at his new club, Openda will be looking to make a statement in the upcoming clash against their fierce rivals.
