In the world of soccer, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have been dominating for almost two decades, captivating fans with their incredible skills and performances on the field.
But as new stars continue to emerge, one former midfielder turned Premier League coach in England has identified two young players who he believes will carry on the legacy of these two legends.
After Barcelona suffered a 3-0 defeat against Chelsea on Tuesday, November 25, Enzo Maresca, the coach of the English club since 2024, pointed out the standout performances of Lamine Yamal from Barça and Estevao Willian, who scored one of the goals in the match.
During a press conference, Maresca didn’t hold back in his praise for the young talents, boldly stating that they have the potential to shine in the same way Messi and Ronaldo have: “As Raphinha said, Estevao and Lamine Yamal will be the next Messi and Ronaldo.”
Maresca specifically highlighted Willian’s unique qualities, describing him as a “special player” who is solely focused on soccer and has a promising future ahead of him.
However, the Italian coach also acknowledged the pressure that comes with being compared to such iconic figures in the sport: “They are so young at 18 that if you start talking about Messi and Ronaldo, I think it’s too much pressure for young guys like them.”
Lamine made his debut for Barcelona at just 15 years old and has since scored a total of 31 goals, with 7 goals this season. Willian, on the other hand, has impressed with 5 goals in 17 games for Chelsea since his debut at 18 years old.
Both players will be looking to continue their success in upcoming matches, with Barcelona facing Atlético Madrid and Chelsea taking on Leeds in their respective fixtures. Fans will be eager to see if these young talents can live up to the high expectations set for them.
