Paris Saint-Germain’s director Luis Campos has shed light on the circumstances that led to Gianluigi Donnarumma’s departure from the club. The goalkeeper made a late move to Manchester City in the summer transfer window after an impressive stint at PSG, where he made 104 Ligue 1 appearances since joining from AC Milan in 2021.
During his time at PSG, Donnarumma kept 32 clean sheets and saved an impressive 74.9% of shots he faced in league matches. He played a crucial role in PSG’s Champions League triumph last season, making key saves in important fixtures.
Campos revealed that Donnarumma’s departure was due to a new salary request that did not align with the club’s current policy. He emphasized that the club values merit and players are rewarded based on performance.
Despite efforts to extend Donnarumma’s contract, an agreement could not be reached due to his salary demands. The club prioritizes stability and team unity over individual player demands.
Donnarumma made his debut for Manchester City in a 3-0 victory over Manchester United. PSG will begin their Champions League title defense against Atalanta, while City will face Napoli in their upcoming fixture.
