Sheffield United cruised into the Championship play-off final with a 3-0 victory over Bristol City, sealing a record-breaking 6-0 aggregate win. The Blades will face either Sunderland or Coventry City in the final at Wembley Stadium after a dominant display at Bramall Lane.
Chris Wilder’s side will be aiming for a quick return to the Premier League with the confidence of making history by winning by the largest aggregate margin in Championship play-off history.
Bristol City came out strong, but were no match for United’s attacking prowess. Two set-piece goals, one before half-time and one after, did the damage for the Blades. Kieffer Moore and Gustavo Hamer were the goal scorers, with Hamer’s strike taking a deflection off Ross McCrorie before finding the back of the net.
Callum O’Hare added a third goal for United, securing their spot in the final. Wilder will now look to guide his team back to the top flight, a feat they have never achieved in nine previous play-off attempts.
Despite the loss, Bristol City had some positives to take from the game. They had been unbeaten in their last nine games against City and showed promise in their chance creation despite the result. However, their away form throughout the season had been a concern, winning only four of their 23 away games in the regular season.
The stage is set for an exciting final at Wembley as Sheffield United look to secure promotion back to the Premier League.
