Slot hopes Jones recovers quickly after injury against Betis.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has provided an update on Curtis Jones’ injury after the midfielder was forced off during the team’s 1-0 victory over Real Betis. Slot, who recently took over from Jurgen Klopp, oversaw his first win with Dominik Szoboszlai scoring the only goal in Pittsburgh. However, Jones’ participation in the pre-season tour remains uncertain as he limped off in the 30th minute.

Slot assured reporters that the decision to substitute Jones was a precautionary measure. “It’s too early to determine the severity of the injury,” Slot said during the post-match press conference. “He could have continued playing, but it was evident that he wasn’t at 100%. In a friendly game, with several days left in our tour, it was best to take him off. We hope for a speedy recovery so that we can see him in the upcoming matches.”

Slot expressed disappointment at Jones’ early exit, especially after the midfielder had performed well during training sessions. Trey Nyoni replaced Jones for the remainder of the game, and Slot was impressed by the 17-year-old’s performance. “Trey did really well today, considering it was only an hour. He played a crucial role in our goal, with a quick turn and a precise pass between the lines. He was also involved in our biggest chance in the second half.”

Slot acknowledged that Nyoni’s development needs to be carefully managed due to his age and physical growth. However, he highlighted the youngster’s potential and positive contributions during the match. Despite some areas that need improvement, Slot was pleased with the team’s defensive performance and their ability to create scoring opportunities.

Overall, Liverpool’s victory against Real Betis was a positive start to their pre-season tour, although concerns remain regarding Jones’ injury and his availability for future matches.
