Arsenal have officially announced the acquisition of striker Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace for a whopping 67 million pounds (80 million euros). The 27-year-old will don the number 10 shirt for the Gunners, pushing their summer spending to approximately 300 million euros.
Eze’s transfer saga was one of the summer’s biggest dramas, with Tottenham Hotspur in negotiations for two weeks before Arsenal swooped in at the last minute to secure the deal.
The Gunners were prompted to make a move in the market due to Kai Havertz’s knee injury, which sidelined him from training. They quickly reached an agreement with Eze, who has a sentimental connection to Arsenal as a former academy player.
Manager Mikel Arteta expressed his excitement about the signing, praising Eze’s talent, work ethic, and ambition. The Spanish coach is eager to see the striker in action and believes he will bring a new dimension to Arsenal’s attack.
With Eze on board, Arsenal’s summer spending now exceeds 300 million euros, with minimal income from player sales. The Gunners have also brought in Martin Zubimendi, Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke, Christian Mosquera, Christian Norgaard, and Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Eze is set to make his debut for Arsenal in their upcoming match against Liverpool on Sunday.
