Porter excited for return to former side against New England Revolution

New England Revolution head honcho Caleb Porter is gearing up for a showdown against his former team Columbus Crew, but he’s warning his squad to tighten up their performances and cut out mistakes.

Porter previously led the Crew to MLS Cup glory five years ago, as well as the Eastern Conference title and Campeones Cup. Since taking the reins at the Revolution in December 2023, he has steered the team to 11th place in the Eastern Conference, although they have hit a rough patch recently.

The Revolution suffered a 2-0 defeat to Los Angeles FC in their last outing, marking just one win in their last 11 league games. Despite the slump, Porter remains optimistic heading into the upcoming match.

“We’ve been solid on the road,” Porter stated confidently. “The team’s confidence away from home is high, and we’ve been getting results. We just need to maintain that belief.”

Reflecting on their recent matches against tough opponents like LAFC and Columbus, Porter emphasized the importance of minimizing errors. He stressed the need for flawless performances against top teams and highlighted the slim margins for error in such matchups.

The upcoming clash sees Columbus Crew also struggling for form, having garnered just four points from their last four league games. However, they currently hold sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Midfielder Sean Zawadzki acknowledged the tight competition in the conference and emphasized the need for Columbus to step up their game and secure results to maintain their playoff position.

As the two teams prepare to face off, all eyes will be on key players like Diego Rossi for Columbus Crew and Carles Gil for New England Revolution. Rossi has been instrumental in recent matches, while Gil has been a creative force for his side.

In terms of predictions, Columbus Crew are favored to come out on top based on their strong home record against New England. The odds are in favor of Columbus with a win probability of 67.7%, while a draw stands at 17.8% and a New England victory at 14.4%.

It promises to be an intriguing battle between two teams looking to turn their fortunes around and secure vital points in the Eastern Conference race. Stay tuned for what is sure to be an exciting showdown between these MLS rivals.
