Competition: Spanish Segunda

Looking to skyrocket their way into the automatic promotion spots on Sunday evening, Racing Santander will travel to an already relegated Cartagena.
Starting with the hosts, enduring what has been a Segunda nightmare this season, Cartagena’s fate has already been decided with plenty of time to spare. Breaking a string of unwanted records this year, Guillermo Romo’s men have already limped their way to a third-tier return and have remarkably put just 17 points on the board from any of their 37 Segunda appearances. Rightfully sat rock-bottom of the table, the Murcia-based outfit have failed to claim a single victory across any competition since the start of December. Last seen falling to a routine 3-1 drumming against Albacete, Cartagena have lost all of their previous four straight Segunda showdowns by an aggregate score of 9-4. In fact, Romo’s squad have claimed just a pair of points from their last 15 attempts. On a similar note, the Zebras have registered just one-point in front of their own supporters so far this calendar year.
As for the visitors, while Racing Santander might have opened up April with a 3-1 defeat against Levante, Jose Lopez’s men have certainly proven that result was nothing more than a minor blip. Opening this weekend’s fixtures with just their goal difference keeping them outside the automatic promotion spots, the Green and Whites will know the importance of avoiding what would be a real banana skin here. Last seen collecting an eye-catching 2-1 win against Deportivo La Coruna, Sunday’s guests have secured consecutive Segunda victories and will be smelling a golden opportunity this weekend. Storming their way to a stellar 3-1 romp away at Huesca in their last appearance outside of Cantabria, the former Malaga boss will now be calling on his squad to find some crucial defensive steel. Along with registering just a sole clean sheet from their previous eight straight outings, Racing Santander have failed to muster a clean sheet on their travels since the end of November.
