Ruben Neves, the Al Hilal footballer and close friend of Diogo Jota, has expressed his anger over a Portuguese magazine’s front cover insinuating a romantic relationship with Jota’s widow, Rute Cardoso. The cover of TV Guia featured a photo of Neves and Cardoso that appeared to show them kissing, sparking controversy.
Neves, who played alongside Jota at Porto and Wolverhampton, took to social media to denounce the magazine’s cover. He emphasized that the person responsible for choosing and publishing the photo did not deserve happiness, calling the decision “shameful.”
In a statement on Instagram, Neves defended his long-standing relationship with his wife and clarified that he and his family had always supported Cardoso and her family. He criticized the lack of respect shown by those involved in creating the misleading cover.
The footballer also paid tribute to Jota, whom he had tattooed in memory of his friend, and reiterated his support for Cardoso during this difficult time. Neves concluded by expressing pride in his own family and offering continued assistance to Cardoso.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister, Katia Aveiro, joined Neves in condemning the magazine cover, calling it a disgraceful act driven by greed. She emphasized the need for justice to prevail and expressed shame over the situation.
