Tyler Heaps, the sporting director of San Diego FC, spoke to The Sun about the rumors linking De Bruyne to the MLS expansion team. He confirmed that talks had taken place with the player’s agent but dismissed the rumors as baseless.
“I don’t know where those rumors come from. I spoke to the agent. Obviously, he has a lot of players. Every time I see him, I ask him: ‘Are you the one who says all this? He’s a fantastic footballer and he loves to go through California,” Heaps said.
Heaps also acknowledged that discussions with De Bruyne had taken place, but it seems that San Diego FC will be unable to meet the player’s salary expectations.
“A move like that would have caused a lot of buzz in MLS. The expansion team has shown promise in its debut season with franchise players like Hirving ‘Chucky’ Lozano and Anders Dreyer. However, adding De Bruyne to the squad may not be financially feasible,” Heaps explained.
