In a surprising turn of events, Bayern Munich’s young attacker Jonah Kusi-Asare has made a last-minute move to Fulham on loan, with the possibility of a permanent transfer looming on the horizon. The 18-year-old was initially set to join Fulham on transfer deadline day, with a reported loan fee of €4m (£3.5m) being agreed upon.
However, it seemed like the deal had fallen through due to paperwork issues. But just a day later, the Premier League gave the green light for the move to go ahead. Fulham now have the option to sign Kusi-Asare permanently at the end of the season, although Bayern Munich retain the right to buy him back in the future.
Kusi-Asare, who represents Sweden at the Under-21 level, made his Bundesliga debut for Bayern in a convincing 3-0 victory over Mainz last April. He also featured off the bench in their dominant 6-0 win against RB Leipzig on the first matchday of this season.
The decision to let Kusi-Asare leave came after Bayern secured the loan signing of Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea, with an obligation to make the deal permanent for €65m (£56m) based on certain performance criteria.
In addition to Kusi-Asare, Fulham also bolstered their attacking options by bringing in wingers Kevin and Samuel Chukwueze from Shakhtar Donetsk and AC Milan respectively on deadline day. The Cottagers are looking to make a statement in the Premier League this season with these exciting new additions to their squad.
